New director Philippe Vergne of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA) welcomed a host of luminaries to the organization’s 35th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, March 29. The party, presented by Louis Vuitton and held at the museum’s Geffen Contemporary space, gave guests including honorary chairs Larry Gagosian and Eugenio Lopez and gala chairs Eli Broad, Lilly Tartikoff Karatz, and Maurice Marciano a first look at the vast new Mike Kelley retrospective. The party also brought together China Chow, Jane Fonda, Gia Coppola, Lisa Edelstein, Pharrell Williams, Owen Wilson, James Welling, Chloë Sevigny, Urs Fischer, Dasha Zhukova, Doug Aitken, Lita Albuquerque, and John Baldessari, along with Joy Venturini Biachi, Dita Von Teese, and Liz Goldwyn and raised $2.4 million for the museum. After taking in the eye-catching pop culture objects in the Kelley exhibition, guests were serenaded by Diana Ross. The famed singer, who just celebrated her 70th birthday, wore a bright red gown as she belted out the lyrics to “I Will Survive.” A fitting tune for an organization that has done just that.
