Louis Vuitton’s Time Capsule Opening
Transportation innovations drive a quest for the proper bag to take along on each new journey—that’s the case made by Louis Vuitton’s “Time Capsule” exhibition that opened with a cocktail party held on Thursday, May 17, in the Westfield Century City’s outdoor atrium. The traveling exhibition of handcrafted suitcases, trunks, and steamer bags made its U.S. debut in Los Angeles a year after it first launched in Hong Kong. Fittingly, Maye Musk (mother to Elon, the disruptive mind behind such cutting-edge conveyances as SpaceX rockets and Tesla electronic cars) was in attendance, getting a first look at rare objects from the French Maison’s archives dating back to its beginnings in 1854. Also on hand to preview the open-to-the-public presentation were Aimee Song, Dani Song, Larsen Thompson, Lionel Richie and Eric Rutherford. In addition to handling refined leathers and durable, water-resistant coated canvas emblazoned with the Maison’s Damier checkerboard and Monogram logo, they all took a tour through the Artisans Room where a craftswoman honed her skills, offering a glimpse into current and future projects. The new show proves there’s a proper case to pack for any trip, even if it’s to infinity and beyond. Westfield Century City, 10250 Santa Monica Blvd., L.A.; louisvuitton.com.
