The Santa Barbara social scene observed one of its most notable midsummer nights on Saturday, July 28. In honor of Lotusland’s 25th anniversary and its late founder, Madame Ganna Walksa, the “Lotus Rising: Lostusland celebrates Gems of the Garden Gala” was a sold-out affair, benefitting the world-renowned botanical gardens.

As the afternoon turned to twilight, attendees experienced in a range of activities and shows: a tour of the grounds; ballet and musical performances; the debut of a unique series of abstract paintings by artist Russel Young; an exhibition of unique plants titled, “Gems of the Garden”; and a presentation of botanical-printed pieces from Oscar de la Renta’s Pre-Fall and Fall/Winter 2018 collections.

Also on-site was artist Lily Pon’s interactive exhibit, recognizing the impact of and recovery from the debris flow in Montecito. The memorial artwork was composed of individual, natural-colored ceramic flowers, each hand-formed from local mud. Plus, guests—including influencers Brittany Xavier, Garance Doré, Marianna Hewitt and Dani Song—had the rare chance to view archival illustrations of Belperron jewelry designs, and preserved correspondence between Madame Ganna Walska and jeweler Suzanne Belperron.
