LAXART Ungala
To celebrate LAXART’s 10-year anniversary, the independent nonprofit art hub in Los Angeles hosted its annual Ungala at Lucy’s El Adobe Café on Tuesday, March 24, to celebrate the gallery’s recent relocation to West Hollywood. As guests such as L.A.-based art advisor Karyn Lovegrove, MOCA curator Phillipe Vergne, and actress China Chow dined, they got a briefing on the organization’s future plans. LAXART’s Founder and Director Lauri Firstenberg declared a new partnership with antique tribal rug decor line, Woven Accents, as well as a grant supported by the home decor company that will be awarded to local artists. Additionally, Noah Davis, an L.A.-based painter who heads the Underground Museum, received a $10,000 grant from LAXART for his work in town. Next DJ Michelle Pesce turned up the volume for a late-night dance party and guests left with their very own Diptyque candle (the French fragrance, skin care, and candle company is donating a portion of all proceeds from the new Beverly Hills candle, that was lit throughout the restaurant, to LAXART). Burn baby burn.
