LACMA’s 50th Anniversary Gala
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) celebrated 50 years with a fundraising gala for 750 guests on Saturday, April 18. Co-hosted by LACMA trustees Ann Colgin, Jane Nathanson, and Lynda Resnick, the event raised $5 million to benefit museum programming and acquisitions. Attendees included notable artists and celebrity guests such as Dustin Hoffman, Will Ferrell, Hitoshi Abe, Ed Ruscha, Naomi Watts, and Barbara Streisand. The evening included dinner prepared by Joachim Splichal of Patina Restaurant, an aerial show by a Melbourne, Australia–based troupe called Strange Fruit, and a live performance by Seal, who sang hit songs such as “Crazy,” “Kiss From A Rose,” and new songs from his upcoming album. The gala also served as the launch of the museum’s exhibition, 50 for 50: Gifts on the Occasion of LACMA’s Anniversary (opening to the public on April 26), with various donated works such as a headdress sculpture from the Republic of Guinea and a painting dating to 1872 by Claude Monet.
