LACMA Collectors Committee Weekend
Following LACMA‘s 28th annual Collectors Committee Weekend, the museum has added nine works to its permanent collection. From the oldest known surviving wood sculpture from Africa to modern and contemporary pieces by Thomas Demand and James Turrell, the affair raised more than $3.2 million for the museum. On Friday evening, exclusive dinners for Collectors Committee members were held at the homes of seven LACMA trustees, each prepared by celebrated chefs including Thomas Keller, Nancy Silverton and Suzanne Goin. On Saturday morning, LACMA curators presented artworks for proposed acquisition. The weekend included a JPMorgan-sponsored gala on Saturday night where gifts of a photograph from Robert Frank’s series The Americans and a portfolio of 75 works on paper by Ed Ruscha were announced and members enjoyed dinner prepared by chef Joachim Splichal of the Patina Group. A live auction led by trustee Viveca Paulin featured rare French wines from private collections, Super Bowl XLVIII tickets and a private performance by Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer-Sager which was added to the program last minute.
