On Friday, October 26, designer Jason Wu joined Sharon Takeda, Senior Curator and Head of the Department of Costume and Textiles at LACMA, at the museum’s Bing Theater for a conversation spanning his illustrious design career, to his current collaboration as a student mentor at Los Angeles’ Otis College of Art and Design, in partnership with Mary and David Martin’s Madworkshop Foundation.

Following a VIP reception, the designer addressed a 400-person crowd of fashion devotees, including Camilla Belle, Larsen Thompson and Chris McMillan. Wu spoke about his fashion masterclass, which explores the theme of women’s uniforms, and allowed students the opportunity to study rare designs from LACMA’s fashion archives. The New York-based talent, who landed on the fashion map as the designer of First Lady Michelle Obama’s inauguration gowns, also spoke about his design process, and teased his upcoming projects such as a new fragrance launch and a plus-size collaboration out in November.
