The worlds of fashion and art converged to harmonious effect last Thursday at the Hermès DWNTWNMEN Spring/Summer 2017 presentation. Like many designers these days (including Saint Laurent, and more recently, Tommy Hilfiger), Hermès opted to make a splash by holding its show in Los Angeles’s newly deemed fashion capital. Downtown’s burgeoning artscape didn’t just supply the backdrop; art was woven in throughout the evening—from MOCA Director Philippe Vergne walking the runway and contemporary artist Doug Aitken sitting front row to the immersive installation rooms guests experienced after the presentation, created by graphic artist Anthony Burrill in collaboration with Hermès Men’s Artistic Director Véronique Nichanian. After the show, attendees including China Chow, Dita Von Teese, Kelly Sawyer, Brad Goreski and Garance Doré enjoyed offerings from L.A. staples Animal and Petit Trois. The artful night was capped off with an open-air performance by Cold War Kids.
