“I grew up in L.A., and I was always coming to The Getty during the day to visit art and see the galleries, but I don’t think I’ve actually ever been to an event at The Getty!” announced actor Camilla Belle as she arrived at the hilltop cultural institution to celebrate the 50th anniversary of South Coast Plaza with C Magazine on Wednesday night. “I am so happy to be experiencing one!”

More than 100 art, fashion and design luminaries joined C’s Founder/Editorial Director/CEO Jennifer Hale and the C team, including influencers Eva Chow, Alexandra Von Furstenberg, Konstantin Kakanias, Garance Doré, Minnie Mortimer, Shiva Rose, Erica Pelosini, Eric Buterbaugh, Katherine Ross, Sally Perrin; actors and models Dita Von Teese, Camilla Belle, Angela Lindvall, Asia Chow, Elaine Irwin, John Pearson; photographers Jan Welters, Beau Grealy, Doug Inglish, Kurt Iswarienko, Christian Anwander, Zoey Grossman; designers Lisa Eisner, George Esquivel, Louis Leeman, Justin Kern, Kendall Conrad, Nathan Bogle, Heidi Merrick, Lucy Pinter, Ambre Dahan; interior designers  Waldo Fernandez, Tommy Clements, Ray Azoulay, Nathan Turner; hair stylists Chris McMillan, Adir Abergel; stylists Karla Welch, Deborah Afshani, Jessica de Ruiter and George Kotsiopoulos.

“It’s exceptional,” mused photographer Garance Doré during drinks on the terrace at sunset. “This is some of the most beautiful architecture in Los Angeles. Just driving up here is really cool,” added model Angela Lindvall. “We arrived just as the sun was setting. It was such a beautiful view. You feel the combination of creativity and art all coming together so you feel honored to be here.”

But the views weren’t the only highlight of the evening. “I love coming to The Getty and I was attracted to this South Coast Plaza celebration because I lived in that area from age 12 to 35,” said Dita Von Teese. “I used to work at South Coast Plaza. I was that girl,” she said, looking back on her experience selling lingerie and cosmetics. “I remember learning people don’t really want makeovers. They just want to look like their best self.”

“Our partnership with C goes back a long time, really since the inception of the magazine. So, it only made sense that on the 50th anniversary of South Coast Plaza that we would celebrate with our friends at C Magazine,” said the institution’s Executive Director of Marketing Debra Gunn Downing, as guests migrated into the restaurant, where six dramatic, custom-made art deco tables were revealed, outfitted in tall candelabras and arrangements of anemones with English and Black Baccara roses. “To me, this event has turned into a piece of art within the art museum. I love that. It all blends into one artistic moment. The Segerstrom family, who own South Coast Plaza, are very engaged and supportive of the arts. It’s been a lifelong legacy of the family and very fitting of us for to be in this environment to celebrate.”

Also in attendance was Eva Chow, alongside her daughter and former C cover girl, Asia, in town for a brief visit from New York. “I just have always loved C Magazine. It really represents the lifestyle of California. I love what they do. I’m in the March issue [Eva and Michael Chow’s home is featured], so I came to support them,” said Chow.

After taking selfies with robot-clad models—inspired by C’s futuristic fashion shoot with South Coast Plaza for the March issue—guests took their seats and enjoyed a three-course meal and a soundtrack by DJ Nikki Pennie. “Jennifer [Hale] always puts together a great group of people. She’s great at curating,” said florist-to-the-stars Eric Buterbaugh over dinner. “And The Getty is such an iconic place. When you’re up here it always feels like magic. It all makes me very happy.”
