After returning from a trip to Capri, Anita Patrickson was struck by the experience of witnessing shoes made right before her eyes. With time, the celebrity stylist and newly minted designer transformed that vision into Amanu—an appointment-only West Hollywood studio that intertwines her modern designs with the immersive craft of custom shoemaking.

On Thursday, May 10, to celebrate the brand’s launch, Patrickson hosted an intimate dinner with the help of her client Julianne Hough.

“Anita is one of my dearest friends,” said Hough. “She always has her heart at the forefront of everything she does. She stands up for what she believes and it’s good for all of us.”

Throughout the night, those beliefs translated into more than pretty footwear. “What I really love about Amanu is that we cut off only what we need,” Patrickson said of her waste-not brand that also prizes giving back (a portion of the event’s proceeds went to the clean water-focused nonprofit Love United).

After guests including Abigail Spencer, Natasha Bedingfield, Taye Hansberry, and Cassandra Grey purchased shoes, they watched as trained cobblers created new pairs from the soles up.

The evening culminated with a three-course meal by Haute Chefs LA and a toast from Brooks Laich, who co-founded Love United with his wife Hough. “As an entrepreneur, probably the most trying time is at the start,” Laichs said. “Yet, you said, ‘I want to take a portion of the proceeds and donate.’ It’s a testament to you and the character that you possess.”
