AFI Fest 2013
Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks kicked off a star-studded week of Los Angeles premieres at this year’s AFI Fest presented by Audi that took place in Hollywood with screenings at the TCL Chinese Theatre and the Egyptian Theatre from Thursday, November 7, to Thursday, November 14. As always, this year’s festival paired documentaries, shorts, and potential awards season contenders with glamorously dressed actors. The Hanks flick, Saving Mr. Banks, (coming to theaters on December 13) about the writer of Mary Poppins kicked off the festival, and the latest feature with Christian Bale and Zoe Saldana, Out of the Furnace, (out December 6) drew critical nods, as did Spike Jonze’s film, Her (in theaters December 20). The Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis (opening December 6) closed the 2013 festivities. But before the last after-party took place at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Jennifer Lawrence, Jane Fonda, George Clooney, Zoe Saldana, and Quentin Tarantino all graced the carpets on Hollywood Boulevard.
