San Francisco Fall Antiques & Art Show Preview Party
The 37th annual Fall Art & Antiques Show was launched in great style with a dazzling preview party held on Wednesday, October 10, at Fort Mason. More than 1,500 guests viewed the sumptuous displays of 50 top international dealers in antiques and art. Everything from Chinoiserie to art deco silver, rare and collectible books, fine French antiques and Maine wicker furniture was on display at the former military pier.
The grand entrance was enhanced by four curated vignettes—respectively designed by Ken Fulk, Madeline Stuart, Charlotte Moss and Paul Wiseman—featuring hand-painted wallpapers by de Gournay, whose founder, Claud Cecil Gurney and his glamorous daughters, Hannah and Rachel, flew in from London to attend the party. “We look forward all year to our visit to San Francisco,” said Gurney. “Our designer clients have all become very dear friends and we are entertained lavishly. And we love meeting new tech clients. They are wonderfully adventuresome.”
Greeting guests and admiring the displays were the show’s director, Ariane Trimuschat, and chairperson Suzanne Tucker. Fellow designers like Brenda Mickel, Kendall Wilkinson, Nina Campbell, James Hunter and Jonathan Rachman were among the first to arrive. Paul Wiseman and his clients made a dash for the luxe booth of Paris antique dealer Benjamin Steinitz where they appraised Chinoiserie urns, 18th-century gilded and carved French chairs, a red lacquered Japanese table and Chinese rock crystal vases. “The quality of the show and the beautiful bay-side setting makes this one of the most significant events in the antiques world,” said Steinitz, a longtime participant. “San Francisco is very dynamic, and it’s home to many knowledgeable collectors and arts patrons. The atmosphere is fantastic for an antiques dealer.”
Among antiques and art enthusiasts at the annual show—which benefits the nonprofit Enterprise for Youth—were Denise Hale, Danielle Steele (visiting from Paris to celebrate her daughter Zara’s birthday), Dede Wilsey, Todd Traina, Nancy and Paul Pelosi, Yurie Pascarella, O.J. Shansby and Modernism gallery owner Martin Muller.
