California Beauty: Amy Adams
“I am always inspired by three things: the woman I am working with, the dress, and the event,” said makeup artist Stephen Sollitto of his work with Amy Adams for the New York premiere of Big Eyes on Monday, December 15. Sollitto said he used the three facts to decide on the Chanel colors he would use for Adams who wore an olive MaxMara shirtwaist dress for the opening. “I immediately thought of gold, especially because of the color of the dress. Perhaps the holidays played a part in that decision, but olive and gold is a great color combination for a reason,” he added. And just like that, Adams’ makeup look for the evening became a template for those going green this holiday season.
FACE
With a soft damp sponge I blended Vitalumière Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in 10 Beige into the skin. I then dusted Limited Edition Camélia de Plumes Highlighting Powder on specific areas—the forehead, on top of the cheek bone, the bridge of the nose and chin—to brighten up the complexion. This way the skin looks glowing on the red carpet. On Adams’s cheeks, I used Powder Blush in Rose Initial for a perfect winter flush.
EYES
I like starting the eye as one blank canvas. I love Jouer Buttercream eyeshadow for this. Then on the almond of the eye—at the corners and underneath the bottom lashes—I used the gold shadow from the Limited Edition Les 5 Ombres in Oiseaux de Nuit. On the upper lash line I used Le Crayon Khol Intense Eye Pencil in Noir and blended that with a small brush using Quadra Eyeshadow in Tissé Fantaisie, a deep copper and softer alternative to all black. Then to make the eyes really stand out, I traced the faintest line of Ligne Graphique Liquid Eyeliner in Noir right at the outer corner of the upper lash line. To brighten the eyes I like to use Limited Edition Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Or Blanc on the inner corners. Lastly, I used a coat of Benefit Badgal Mascara for deep black lashes.
LIPS
I wanted a lip that would make Adams’s blue eyes pop. At first I thought of red, but I didn’t want it to steal away from the dress so instead I chose a raisin color. I started with Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care to prep the lips. Then I chose Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in L’Amoureuse with a coat of Glossimer in Giggle over it for a bit of shine. To keep the lip from feathering at the edges I outlined them with Precision Lip Definer in Tulip.
