House of Honey in Montecito.

Interior decorator Tamara Kaye-Honey of design firm and shop House of Honey in Pasadena, has just opened doors to a second location in Montecito. “My husband and I grew up in Canada and our families both had cottages, so we really wanted that lifestyle for our kids, ages 10 and 12,” says Kaye-Honey who is originally from Nova Scotia. “I fell in love with Montecito, and I love the ocean and the stylish, but relaxed vibe. It seemed a natural extension to bring my business here and have an excuse to vacation.”

For the new 600-square-foot showroom, Kaye-Honey transformed a vacant space on San Ysidro Road into a glamorous trove appointed with a chandelier by Lindsey Adelman for Roll+Hill, wallpaper by Zak+Fox, and a dramatic, fireplace lined with black tiles from Heath Ceramics. “It’s a charming freestanding cottage that echoes the homes you’ll find all around Montecito,” she says. “I wanted to play off the traditional exterior by juxtaposing it against the moody interior I created. It’s meant an unexpected surprise and quite the jewel box.” Inside the store, Kaye-Honey has an artful mix of collector-like wares and accessories such as candles by Missoni Home, ceramic vessels by Amanda Wright, glass decanters by Joe Cariati, brass decorative objects by Kelly Wearstler, and chairs made with hand-cut vegetable-dyed leather and African redwood by Taylor Forrest. She’s also partnered with Los Angeles–based Fine Art Photography Gallery Fahey/Klein to offer a rotating exhibit of contemporary photography. “My sensibility is eclectic and whimsical, and the space reflects what I call my ‘new vintage style,’ an artful mix of old and new,” adds Kaye-Honey. “I think House of Honey has a distinctive personality that fits well with the other beautiful shops in the area.”
