Academy Award-winning actress Sophia Loren was honored along with her son, conductor, Carlo Ponti, as part of the “Bella Italia! Tribute” at Festival del Sole in Napa Valley on July 9. The party, hosted at Far Niente Winery, lured guests such as Robert Redford, Francis Ford & Eleanor Coppola, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, and Whoopi Goldberg. Highlights included videotaped presentations by President Bill Clinton and Robert de Niro, a performance by Ponti and the orchestra by composer Daniel Brewbaker, and a dinner (paired with Far Niente wines) prepared by Piero Selvaggio of Valentino Santa Monica and Chef Michael Chiarello of Bottega Napa Valley.
