The worlds of art and fashion converged in California on Saturday, March 29, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA) where guests including Joy Venturini Bianchi and Dita Von Teese reconnected during the organization’s 35th Anniversary Gala presented by Louis Vuitton. “I first met Dita at an amfAR event in San Francisco about 10 years ago. This beautiful porcelain doll came up to me and said, ‘I want to be you when I grow up,'” said Bianchi who runs Helpers House of Couture in San Francisco. “Then we sat together at the opening gala of the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition, held at the de Young Museum,” she added. “When we talk, it’s always a very soulful experience. We’ve had some conversations about the beauty of life.” On this warm March evening, the friends found themselves inside the women’s room during the MOCA event and Liz Goldwyn snapped a photo of Von Teese and Bianchi. After taking in the new Mike Kelley exhibition, Goldwyn and Von Teese wanted a look at the Tom Ford gown Bianchi was wearing.

Another Tom Ford design brought Goldwyn and Bianchi together at the Annenberg Gala last fall. “I was also wearing Tom Ford that night and this lovely young girl said she loved the dress and asked about it,” said Bianchi, recalling how she met Goldwyn. “Then Liz introduced me to this nice young man. I said, ‘You look just like the guy who plays the president on Scandal.’ He smiled and said, ‘I am!’ And that’s how I met Liz and Tony Goldwyn,” said Bianchi. Back at the MOCA gala, everyone seemed to follow Goldwyn’s lead. They all wanted a picture with Bianchi and a look at her Tom Ford dress adorned with zebra stripes made of sequins, beads, feathers, and a three-dimensional zebra spine in the back.
