Scene and Heard: Raquel Welch
“Never underestimate the power of a good costume,” purred screen icon Raquel Welch during her turn onstage at the 16th annual Costume Designer’s Guild Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on Saturday, February 22. The ballroom was abuzz with praise for the designers who gathered to be recognized by their peers, and to revel in snappy one-liners from guests, presenters and winners alike, including writer and director Judd Apatow. “My daughter is 16-years-old and she’s not aging as well as Raquel Welch,” joked Apatow after receiving the evening’s Collaborator award. Ellen Mirojnick won the award for Outstanding Made for Television Movie or Mini Series costumes for her work on Behind The Candelabra. “The absolute trust each actor had, allowing us to bedazzle them each day, was amazing,” she said. Trish Summerville took home the prize for Best Costumes in a Fantasy Film for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The former stylist seemed to be channeling Welch when she celebrated her win with post-awards dancing with friends at Giorgio’s at The Standard, Hollywood.
