San Francisco’s jet set is packing a new set of bags. Storied leather line Ghurka is back in town, and globetrotters throughout the city are plotting their next journey. Inspired by the brand’s British military heritage, Ghurka’s new Post Street boutique is the ultimate gentleman’s parlor complete with custom mill-crafted wooden display cases that are accented with brass to complement the hardware on satchels and briefcases. Vintage bags dating back to Ghurka’s inaugural collections from the ’70s decorate the walls. An older incarnation of the shop was located just one block away from the current address, and the new space is the first West Coast outpost to open since John Reuter took over as the brand’s CEO two years ago. Standing in the Post Street shop, Reuter said the San Francisco location is the line’s only store outside Ghurka’s home base of New York City. So, once again, San Franciscans embarking on safaris, Galapagos treks, and European tours over the holidays, can again safely stash their possessions inside Ghurka bags before boarding the jetliners that’ll transport them overseas. Bon voyage.
