Spotlight: Tory Burch Beverly Hills
Designer Tory Burch has a new California address—at 366 North Rodeo Drive—where she’s just opened a 4,700-square-foot space she dreamed up with architect Daniel Romualdez. The façade’s brass fretwork was inspired by Chinese Chippendale, and interiors have brown lacquer walls, seafoam drapes, lush velvet sofas in a bold shade of teal, and gold leaf wallpaper spread with peonies. To celebrate the opening, Burch created an L.A. issue in her online magazine, The Tory Blog, and her team asked a quintet of locals for one image that best represents the city to them, and what they love about the item. Actresses Eva Amurri Martino and Mindy Kaling cited culinary delicacies, while Jared Eng of Just Jared waxed poetic about his favorite dessert. For actress Jaime King, the Warner Brothers studio lot came to mind, and actress Hailee Steinfeld gave a nod to the region’s famous temperate climate. Below is an excerpt from The Tory Blog:
HAILEE STEINFELD
“Los Angeles in November. Can’t beat the weather. Love it here.”
EVA AMURRI MARTINO
“For me, L.A. is about the best sushi ever and, above all, simplicity! In everything: design, food, lifestyle. Love how this plating even exemplifies that—down to the blue design reminiscent of the ocean.”
JARED ENG
“Blockhead’s Shavery is my happy place in L.A.—it’s very off-the-grid and is my favorite dessert place in town! It serves a unique blend of shaved ice and ice cream called snow cream. It’s so light and fluffy but deliciously sweet at the same time—even better than frozen yogurt!”
MINDY KALING
“If the idealized version of my life took place in New York, it would include a scene of me falling in love with a guy in the dead of January winter at 1 am, huddled in pea coats and scarves in a booth at Odessa in the East Village, eating pierogi, scored to Fred Astaire’s Cheek to Cheek. In L.A. it’s replaced with me at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles at 1 am in the dead of a September heat wave, my thighs sticking to the booth, sharing waffles and fried chicken with a guy and listening to Ice Cube.”
JAIME KING
“I love this picture with my cast from Hart of Dixie. We’re all at the Warner Brothers studio. To me, this is a group of artists who followed their hearts and made their dreams come true. This is what is so magical about L.A.—the beauty of hard work and persistence that manifests a high creativity and way to share it with the world.”
