Guests from California at the Valentino fall 2013 haute couture show held at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild on Wednesday, July 3, found the setting itself breathtaking. The gowns encrusted with river pearls, coral and gold thread looked stunning against a backdrop that designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli likened to a cabinet of curiosities. Even monastic day clothes in herringbone and cashmere looked just right. The designers’ mood board quoted Leonardo de Vinci’s saying, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Their clothes mirrored the sentiment.
