The Scarlet Huntington Opening Party
One of the Bay Area’s most beloved boutique hotels celebrated its reopening with a fashion show of Karen Caldwell Designs gowns on Thursday, May 22, following a $15 million renovation. Situated atop Nob Hill, The Scarlet Huntington (formerly The Huntington Hotel) was reworked to highlight the space’s rich history yet give the décor an avant-garde look inspired by modern day Malaysia and Singapore (its sister hotel, also owned by Grace International, is the Scarlet Singapore).
San Francisco-based interior architecture and design firm Forrest Perkins drew on the original red found in the brick façade of the hotel, and brought the hue into the space’s interiors. The firm retained the hotel’s crown moldings and crystal chandeliers dating back to 1924, and added dramatic black lacquer vanities and gold gilt mirrors. As guests sipped cocktails from the hotel’s Big 4 restaurant, they were elated to hear that the majority of staff—many of whom have worked at the hotel for over 20 years—have also returned.
