“Silicon Valley” Premiere
HBO held a premiere for its newest series, “Silicon Valley,” in the bastion of tech culture that is Redwood City on Saturday, April 5. Guests and actors gathered at the Fox Theatre to see the new collaboration between executive producers Mike Judge and Alec Berg. The show is a comedy inspired by Judge’s own experiences as an engineer in Northern California, and there were plenty of zip-up hoodies and ratty five o’clock shadows onscreen. Starring Thomas Middleditch and Zach Woods of “The Office,” and T.J. Miller of Comedy Central‘s “Mash Up,” the first episode opened to Richard (Middleditch) and his colleagues’ start-up launch party, a requisite discussion of algorithms, and immediate buyout offers. It’s only a matter of time before some tech lackey knocks on the front door of a stately Pacific Heights home and makes an all-cash offer. The eight-episode season fills the time slot after “Game of Thrones,” capitalizing on a built-in audience of wonks. As guests checked in with Foursquare and devised new hashtags for the evening, it was clear the show had found its audience.
