Record-breaking temperatures and a new venue made the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art‘s Modern Ball that took place on Wednesday, April 30, the hottest spring ticket in the Bay Area. Due to SFMOMA’s ongoing renovation, the museum’s signature event was held across the street in the Yerba Buena Gardens, a truly spectacular alternative. With this year’s change of location, the benefit became a glamorous tented garden party filled with guests including ball chairwoman Christine Lamond, as well as Allison Speer and Sonya Molodetskaya who all wore Valentino, a gala sponsor.

Guests in spring looks—created by a host of designers including Peter Pilotto, Muccia Prada, and Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte—followed a series of mini red carpets in the shape of polka dots that led them towards one of the three lavish spaces designed by Stanlee Gatti for the night’s events. Gala dinner guests headed to a seated dinner on the Yerba Buena Gardens Terrace while Supper Club guests ascended escalators into an outdoor cocktail lounge with retro-print couches and décor splashed in bold hues of turquoise, marigold and fuchsia. The lounge looked out over SoMA’s Third Street where spotlights in complementary colors hung suspended from cranes to illuminate the museum’s under-construction building.

Next, the Post-Modern Party kicked off with one of the evenings headliners, Brooklyn synthpop duo Holy Ghost!, and guests took in the performance before heading to the dance floor for a silent disco involving piles of headphones. A DJ set by indie band Passion Pit kept guests on their toes long after midnight.
