Gagosian S.F. + Urs Fischer Exhibition Opening
Zurich-born contemporary artist Urs Fischer proved ready for his close-up on Friday, October 21 with the opening of his new sculptural and painting exhibition, “Mind Moves,” at the newly minted Gagosian Gallery in San Francisco. As patrons entered the whitewashed space, they were met with fragments of the New York-based artist’s visage projected into different shapes, with some presented as topographical masses propping against each other and rendered in bold, graphic hues. Fischer also created sculptures in the form of gestural scribbles in the air (which perceptually change form and color with different vantage points), as well as four pieces of furniture comprised of a foamlike material where spectators are invited to sit and interact with the art. The gallery’s mega-dealer Larry Gagosian joined Fischer and the likes of gallerist John Berggruen, Dede Wilsey and writer Derek Blasberg—who is also a senior staff member of the gallery—as they made their way through the large-scale works, each straddling the real, the imaginary and the digital, and relating to the idea and role of interactivity and art.
