Derek Lam Trunk Show
A select group of Derek Lam clientele landed en mass at the Stanley Marcus lounge at Neiman Marcus in Palo Alto for an intimate afternoon with the S.F.-native. While cocktails and delicious bites were passed around, the designer narrated a preview of his bohemian-inspired Fall/Winter collection of looks that are deeply infused with ’70s glamour and characterized by skillful patchwork and pleating details. Ensembles ranged from slouchy cargo pants in matte satin paired with short capes, to cashmere silk sweaters with ornate gored patchwork and sophisticated mid-calf skirts. “If I’m going to put in a seam, I want it to have meaning,” Lam explained as a model twirled. Colors and fabrics were saturated, deep fall hues like camel, navy, black and brown leather intermixed, and even dark blue fox fur. Afterwards, guests gathered downstairs for more shopping, this time from Lam’s spring/summer collection. “I love the relaxed California feeling,” Lam reminisced. “But I also love New York for it’s urban and modern energy.”
