San Francisco’s Jessica Silverman Gallery celebrated its newly expanded location on Ellis Street with an opening reception for the current exhibition, Amikam Toren: Of The Times and Other Historic Works, on Friday, November 22. Toren, a 68-year-old London-based artist, destroys objects and turns the remains into original paintings and sculptures. The show, Toren’s first solo presentation in America, includes a series of large-scale paintings he created in the ’80s and ’90s depicting letters made with pigments he got from pulped editions of The Times, London’s famed newspaper. The exhibition of uniquely reinvented forms runs through January 19, 2014.
