On Sunday, November 8, the 2016 Breakthrough Prize ceremony honored innovators in the realms of fundamental physics, life sciences and mathematics fields at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountainview. The event drew the worlds of Hollywood and Silicon Valley together, including Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Sergey Brin of Google, Hilary Swank, Lana Del Rey and Russell Crowe. Co-hosted by Seth McFarlane, the night saw a musical performance by Pharrell as well as the global inaugural competition, Breakthrough Junior Challenge, awarding $400,000 in educational prizes to a student whose original video brings life to a scientific or mathematical principle.
