Helgi Tómasson celebrated his 30th anniversary as artistic director of the San Francisco Ballet by kicking off the company’s 2015 season on Thursday, January 22 at War Memorial Opera House with Défilé, a work he choreographed for the entire company and S.F. Ballet School students and trainees. The opening night gala brought out Charlotte and George Shultz, Dede Wilsey, OJ Shansby, Yurie Pascarella, Bob and Randi Fisher, Christopher Wheeldon and Ross Rayburn, Lucy Jewett, Bridget Dixon Nguyen, and Greer Goings. The program was filled with 11 other virtuosic works including the world premiere of Christopher Wheeldon’s pas de deux, Borealis, performed by Frances Chung and Joseph Walsh, in honor of Tómasson’s anniversary. Post performance, guests returned to City Hall to dance to beats by DJ Chris Clouse and throwback tunes performed by Wonderbread 5.
