“Are you all ready for a show? Because if not you had better leave,” joked Neiman Marcus Fashion Director Ken Downing at the start of the 2015 San Francisco Ballet Auxiliary Fashion Show held at the Fairmont San Francisco on Thursday, April 2. Downing, reprising his master of ceremonies role for the 34th annual event benefiting the storied company, curated a 41-look runway presentation of spring looks for guests including OJ Shansby, Dede Wilsey, Komal Shah, Sonya Molodetskaya, Karen Caldwell, and Sobia Shaikh. There was a ’70s feel to may of the designs including maxi skirts and flared jeans, as well as white ensembles, bold patterns following Downing’s “mix-don’t-match” prescription, as well as a finale combining noir influences of punk rock, Victoriana, and Studio 54. “If you want to jump up on your Chivari chair and just shake it, go for it” said Downing.

While guests refrained from dancing on the furniture, Downing’s enthusiasm was obviously contagious. Sarah Somberg spotted a model dressed in the very Mary Katrantzou dress she was wearing for the occasion. As her double walked the runway and passed Somberg’s chair, Somberg stood and exchanged high fives with the model. The crowd cheered. And they continued to do so during the afternoon’s brief live auction of lots for box seats at the San Francisco Ballet’s most coveted performances and exotic getaways to global destinations including Shanghai, Monaco and Africa.
