Spotlight: Kiton S.F.
Italian bespoke suit maker Kiton is the latest luxury address to open in San Francisco’s Union Square. Bay Area men with an appreciation for hand-stitched button holes and precisely fitted suits have cultivated a long love affair with the fashion house through Union Square department stores Wilkes Bashford and Neiman Marcus, but now they’re making pilgrimages to the new space located in the historic Shreve Building on the corner of Grant Avenue and Post Street for custom orders. The new boutique houses men’s and women’s clothing made in Naples, as well as sportswear, accessory and shoe collections, and a limited number of custom surfboards, a draw both for Mavericks surfers and for those who ride weekend waves at Pacifica. Shoppers can order the boards featuring custom Kiton fabric inlays that are hand shaped and glassed by Casey McCrystal, who has worked with both pro and underground surfers since 1975. Kiton clearly believes in the old adage: All work suits and no play makes Jack (and his Bay Area brothers) a very dull boy.
