Spotlight: American Craft Council San Francisco Show
On Friday, the American Craft Council San Francisco Show debuted a three-day showcase at Fort Mason Center with approximately 225 artisans and fine artists from around the country, as well as a food emporium by Good Food Merchants Guild, and craft beer provided by the San Francisco Brewers Guild.
The show, now in its 39th year, lured more than 10,000 craft aficionados and collectors with wares in all categories of craft such as textiles, jewelry, leather, glass, ceramics, metal sculptures, woodwork, and, mixed media. There was also an interior design exhibition Make Room: Modern Design Meets Craft, aptly named “Let’s Entertain” with vignettes outfitted by six prominent Bay Area designers. The roster of decorators included John K. Anderson of John K. Anderson Design, Alison Damonte of Alison Damonte Design, Tyler Dawson of Tyler Dawson Design, Chad DeWitt of Hwang DeWitt, Jiun Ho of Jiun Ho Inc., and April Powers of April Powers Interior Design. “This year’s theme ‘Let’s Entertain’ is universal, and everyone can relate to it,” says Pamela Diamond, Director of Marketing and Communications for the American Craft Council. “But typically, when people think of craft, they think of design and beauty. They don’t necessarily think of how useful it is. At the show, we showcase beautiful objects that are great for everyday use, particularly in the realm of entertaining, and our hope is to connect the various audiences that are interested in craft, whether it be great design, artisanal food, or wonderful craft beer.”
