Scene and Heard: Tory Burch
“We’re playing a short film on the terrace. The video was directed by Lisa Eisner and highlights our Rodeo collection, designed in honor of the opening,” said Tory Burch during the launch party for her new Beverly Hills flagship boutique on Tuesday, January 14. Eisner, who also stopped in to toast Burch, shot the movie on the grounds of Lotusland in Montecito. In the movie, two girls wearing dresses, caftans, and jewelry from the new capsule collection skip across lawns, float languidly in a pool, and discover flowering blooms in the estate’s famed gardens. The weekend romp is set to L.A.-based composer Julia Holter’s haunting tune, “My Baby.”
“Beverly Hills, and Rodeo Drive in particular, are so iconic to Los Angeles,” said Burch, reflecting on her new shop. “I think of all of the stories of old Hollywood—it sounds incredibly glamorous,” she added, noting that she stays at the Beverly Hills Hotel when she’s in town. “I love the old-fashioned feel, and there’s nothing like the coffee shop downstairs.” Burch kept what she called L.A.’s “eclectic sophistication” in mind for the interiors of her shop. “We balanced gold leaf wallpaper and velvet benches with coral sconces and Moroccan mirrors,” she said. Looking ahead to the coming months, the designer said the shop will soon stock the line’s first foray into watches, and she also hinted that a coffee table book is in the works, to be published next fall. Perhaps the shop and the Rodeo Drive collection will both make cameos.
