“I love Cabaret, but I don’t know if it’ll go that way,” said Natasha Dolby, who, along with her mother-in-law Dagmar Dolby, is chairing the San Francisco Symphony‘s Opening Night Gala on Thursday, September 24, at Davies Symphony Hall. Dolby notes that the evening’s program pays homage to Broadway musicals and will include a performance by Patrick Stewart in the role of Henry Higgins singing selections from My Fair Lady. “Alexandra Silber who played the role of Maria in West Side Story, will also perform,” said Dolby, adding, “Michael Tilson Thomas [the Symphony’s music director] is keeping an additional surprise for the night.” This is the slot that could go to any number of musicals, and the guessing game among guests has already begun. Dolby hopes to hear a song from the famed 1966 musical written by Christopher Isherwood, but she says she’ll have to wait like everyone else until opening night to find out what MTT has planned. A game of fantasy symphony, anyone?
