Perfect Pairing: Zooey Deschanel+ Tommy Hilfiger
Aside from M. Ward, the male half of the band She & Him, the perky and perpetually spirited Zooey Deschanel couldn’t possibly find a better collaborative partner than Tommy Hilfiger. The new capsule collection affectionately called To Tommy From Zooey proves the point in an array of shifts and pleated dresses made in Hilfiger’s trademark palette of red, white, and blue. The Los Angeles-based singer, actress, and ukulele player who stars in Fox’s “New Girl”—and fills the female slot in the band She & Him—worked with the New York-based designer to create crisp dresses and accessories with the sort of short-yet-elegant hemlines Deschanel frequently wears. There are 16 dresses and some nautical-inspired necklaces, bags, and charm bracelets that all riff on Hilfiger’s familiar prep theme. But the dresses and bags are also constructed from patterns based on 1960s silhouettes, giving the collection a welcome mod twist. The designs are fit for a country club or golf course, but, as Deschanel can attest, they can also be worn while teaching a kindergarten class or crooning into a retro microphone.
