Perfect Pairing: We Came In Peace + Ben Medansky
The collaborative creative studio We Came In Peace, founded by Kim Swift and Andrew Stevens, is keen to expand the botanical horizons of Valentine givers and recipients alike this week. The team behind innovative temporary spaces at Art Basel, living dioramas for Creative Time, and forest environments surrounding TD Bank ATMs in New York has collaborated with Los Angeles development Eastown, on Hollywood Boulevard, to launch a pop-up plant shop called Persephone’s inside a two-floor industrial loft on the new property. Rather than miles of red roses and a sea of pink and white blooms, the space holds pots thrown by downtown Los Angeles ceramicist Ben Medansky that are filled with all manor of succulents, air plants, ferns, and bamboo that are bent, shaped, twisted, and carved into intricate sculptures. In addition, for traditionalists who like to pair floral arrangements with treats both sweet and sparkling, the shop also has a stash of Compartés chocolates and Bing Bang jewelry. This pop-up singlehandedly ensures that Cupid’s arrows won’t lead lovers to stray from carefully curated minimalist marks.
