Perfect Pairing: Saks Fifth Avenue + SNL
If laughter is the best medicine, Saks Fifth Avenue and “Saturday Night Live” are prescribing the ultimate remedy to fight breast cancer. The department store is kicking off its annual Key to the Cure campaign by celebrating the 40th anniversary of “Saturday Night Live.” Actors Will Ferrell, Ana Gasteyer, Vanessa Bayer, Cecily Strong and Colin Jost are serving as this year’s ambassadors and the duo who launched Rag & Bone—Marcus Wainwright and David Neville—created a unisex T-shirt to commemorate the shopping weekend that takes place from Thursday, October 16 to Sunday, October 19, at Saks Fifth Avenue department stores. In San Francisco, proceeds from the shirt sales go to California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), and at the South Coast Plaza Saks location, Susan G. Komen Orange County is the beneficiary.
The collaboration also includes clothes by seven designers who created looks inspired by notable SNL characters. Curated by SNL’s Emmy-nominated costume designer Tom Broecker, the collection includes shorts as interpreted by Alexander Wang, Spartans Cheerleading uniforms dreamed up for Cheri Oteri and Farrell as interpreted by the Olsen twins’ line Elizabeth and James. There are also hats fit for The Coneheads as interpreted by Eugenia Kim, and, of course, a school uniform for Molly Shannon’s famous character Mary Katherine Gallagher. The latter is sure to make any plain Jane into an instant superstar. Promise.
