Perfect Pairing: Saint Laurent + Hollywood Palladium

Courtney Love posed with an equally platinum-haired Lady Gaga and The Kills’ Alison Mosshart held court with her bandmate Jamie Hince at the Hollywood Palladium on Wednesday, February 11, though none performed onstage in the literal sense. They, along with a host of musicians and actors, were on hand inside the Streamline Moderne structure for Saint Laurent Creative Director Hedi Slimane’s presentation of his men’s Fall 2016 collection and post-show concert with performances by Father John Misty, Beck, Joan Jett, Allah-Las, The Sloths, Cherry Glazerr, Curtis Harding, No Parents, Bleached, Kim and the Created, and Mystic Braves. Though looks from the men’s collection and the upcoming women’s fall line were sent down the runway to “She’s Gone,” by Montreal-based band PyPy—comprised of Annie-Claude Deschênes, Simon Says, Phil Clem, and Roy Vucino—the lineup of after-party bands showed Slimane’s eye for local talent.
The show included men’s fedoras, coats with handcrafted embroidery, and capes, and for women, culottes paired with glam metallic or leather boots as well as slim skirts and dresses that hit at mid-calf. There were echoes of Slimane’s past Psych Rock-inspired collections, and silhouettes for the androgynous looks were pencil thin. As the show concluded, Love, who swung a neatly-folded leg to the beat throughout, immediately rose to give Slimane a standing ovation. The stage was set for an evening of eclectic tunes.
