Perfect Pairing: Modernism Week + Herman Miller
What’s it like to live in a Donald Wexler-designed house in Palm Springs? Dinah Shore (and Leonardo DiCaprio who recently bought her Coachella Valley estate) have basked in the steel, glass, and concrete structures Wexler devised for desert living that seamlessly connect house interiors with outdoor decks and rocky terraces. Now Herman Miller is giving Modernism Week participants a chance to make their way through one of Wexler’s gems, a 1957 house that opens into a back patio complete with the requisite rectangular swimming pool. The space, styled by Sam Bigio, includes art from such West Coast creatives as Aleph Geddis, Peter Sebeckis, and Linda Lopez, and a plethora of Herman Miller designs. Standouts include an Eames coffee table and Nelson pedestal tables arranged in the den and a kitchen set with Eames aluminum chairs, a Nelson Saucer Bubble pendant lamp, and a collection of vintage milk glass. Outside are Eames aluminum outdoor chairs and the Medici settee, chair and table by Konstantin Grcic for Mattiazzi. In other words, the space is Instagram catnip.
