Perfect Pairing: John Lautner + Olfactive Studio
The view of the Los Angeles skyline from John Lautner’s Sheats-Goldstein house high above Benedict Canyon has inspired countless photographers. Now, Miguel Sandinha‘s image of the striking glass-and-concrete structure that appears to be floating above a jungle of greenery has inspired a fragrance from Olifactive Studio. The niche French perfume house’s creative director Celine Verleure worked with Clement Gavarry (son of famed scent maker Max Gavarry) to create Panorama, the new fragrance with top notes of spicy wasabi, fig leaf, bamboo leaf, bergamont, and lemon. Middle notes of fresh cut grass, cardamom, and violet leaf, plus base notes of fir balsam, patchouli, and myrrhe absolute also evoke the gardens below the house that was built into the hillside in the 1960s. It’s still a jungle out there, but it smells unexpectedly fresh.
