Perfect Pairing: Fendi + Net-A-Porter
Now that festival season is well underway and yacht captains are plotting a course to Cannes, the style set is packing bags for the journey to the South of France. The annual film festival there draws industry creatives to much-anticipated screenings and the fashion flock to glamorous evening parties. Just in time for this year’s festivities, slated to take place over the better part of a fortnight in mid-May, Italian fashion house Fendi is launching a capsule collection of luggage inspired by actress Silvana Mangano on Net-A-Porter this Friday, April 24. The studded rolling suitcases, leather overnight bag, and colorful bag charm were designed with Mangano’s wardrobe at home and on film sets in mind. Such luggage seems perfectly suited to hold swimwear and gowns for the Cannes circuit. After all, Mangano personally used Pergamena suitcases with small studs when she traveled to premieres, and she worked with the Rome-based fashion house on costumes and furs for such movies as Luchino Visconti’s Gruppo di Famiglia in un Interno (1974). Mangano’s daughter Veronica de Laurentiis worked closely on the capsule collection with her friend Silvia Venturini Fendi, director of accessories at the Italian fashion house. And a portion of proceeds from the luggage sales goes to Italian ONLUS, a nonprofit created by de Laurentiis that benefits the first Centro Silvana Mangano which supports women fleeing domestic violence. Isn’t it time for a brand new bag?
