California Beauty: Chanel Cruise 2015 Dubai

Karl Lagerfeld has shown his cruise collections for Chanel in some decidedly far-flung locations, but he outdid himself on Tuesday, May 13, by staging his latest show on a manmade island in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Guests including Tilda Swinton, Dakota Fanning, Vanessa Paradis, Benjamin Biolay, Freida Pinto, Zhou Xun, Yasmin Hamdan, and Anna Mouglalis traveled by boat to the show that was held in a carpeted hangar with a white lattice skin of interlocking Cs that evoked Islamic fretwork and also the midcentury concrete blocks of Palm Springs hotels. The entire show seemed a mirage of sorts, conjured up in desert sands. “You never know what to expect,” said Swinton. “I was told a rumor that this cardboard box—whatever it is, an egg crate—had been built in the desert, and I didn’t really believe it. Then you get here and you think from a distance, ‘no they didn’t really,’ and then you get up close to it and it’s all double Cs and they must have done it,” she added. Lagerfeld’s take on the Arabic folk tale compilation, One Thousand and One Nights, included his version of the abaya as well as beautifully crafted tunic tops and pants. Models with large clouds of hair wore dramatic mascara paired with sun-kissed cheeks, but had charmingly bare pink lips as they made their way among guests seated on sunken couches spread with plenty of cushions.

The skin was prepped with Hydra Beauty Crème and Serum, then artists applied Perfection Lumière Velvet Smooth Effect Makeup with SPF 15, Éclat Lumière highlighter face pen, Correcteur Perfection concealer, Poudre Universelle Libre loose powder, Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15, Camelia de Plumes highlighting powder in Platine (available this November).
EYES
In addition to small pieces of gold leaf that were applied to the inner corners of the eyes of each model, makeup artists used Les 4 Ombres in Rêve d’Orient, Illusion d’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Mirifique and Convoitise, Le Crayon Khôl Intense eye pencil in Noir, Ecriture de Chanel automatic liquid liner in Noir (available this July), Le Volume de Chanel mascara in Noir, Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil.
LIPS
Models all had nude lips with a pop of pink created with dabs of Rouge Allure Intense Long-Wear Lip Colour in Indécise and L’Eclatante and Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Rose Rêvé (available this July).
