California Beauty: Chanel Couture Spring 2015

Karl Lagerfeld is a master of contrasts and his Chanel haute couture shows often offer the perfect canvas to display this talent. For the spring 2015 haute couture collection, shown in Paris on Tuesday, January 27, Lagerfeld filled the Grand Palais with a white paper garden of blooming Technicolor flowers. But the makeup looks worn by models were anything but pink-cheeked and cherubic. Instead of timid nude tones, each girl had vibrant red lipshades that makeup artists created by lining mouths with a scarlet-colored pencil and filling them in with Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in Arthur. Models were then shrouded in a touch of anonymity—black tulle masks covered eyes dusted with dark shadows from the new L’Intemporel de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Creation. The Eyes Wide Shut looks added a touch of wickedness to Lagerfeld’s garden. And you got the feeling that Eve—the world’s most infamous gardener—would wholeheartedly appreciate the juxtapostion.

FACE
The skin was prepped with Hydra Beauty Crème and Serum, then artists applied Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15, Éclat Lumière highlighter face pen, Correcteur Perfection concealer, Poudre Universelle Libre natural finish loose powder, Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Broad Spectrum SPF 15, and a dusting of Lumière d’Été bronzing powder in Creation (available in May).
EYES
Makeup artists created a nearly naked eye, but covered the eye region with L’Intemporel de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Creation, Illusion d’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Mirifique and Convoitise, Le Crayon Khôl Intense eye pencil in Clair, Ecriture de Chanel automatic liquid liner in Noir (available this July), Le Volume de Chanel Waterproof mascara in Noir, Crayon Sourcils eyebrow pencil.
LIPS
Models all had bright scarlet lips created with Rouge Coco Baume hydrating conditioning lip balm, Le Crayon Levres Precision Lip Definer in Scarlet (available in March), and Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in Arthur (available in March).
NAILS
In contrast to the vibrant red lips, models wore Le Vernis Nail Colour in Ballerina, the lightest and most delicate pink.
