Santa Barbara Wine Auction for Direct Relief
The Santa Barbara Vintners Foundation (SBVF) held its eighth biennial wine auction on Saturday, February 22, at Bacara Resort & Spa. More than 600 guests including Jane Lynch, Emilio Estevez, and Shiri Appleby alongside host Chris Harrison of The Bachelor raised $1 million to aid Direct Relief, a Goleta-based medical aid organization. Guests supped on a four course dinner by James Beard-nominated chef Jon Shook and the Bacara kitchen, that was paired with local Santa Barbara wines. Live and silent auctions included library wines, an invitation to attend the 10-year reunion of the cast for the film Sideways, among other unique offerings. The SBVF also held a brief award ceremony to recognize Rick and Diane Longoria of Longoria Wines as Pioneer Vintners, and Barnara Banke of Jackson Family Wines as a Distinguished Vintner. Attendees also donated more than $250,000—during the Stand Up and Be Counted portion of the event—to support Direct Relief’s efforts in reducing maternal and infant deaths worldwide.
