Make Equality Reality
Equality Now, an international human rights organization with a focus on the human rights for woman and girls, honored director Joss Whedon at its Make Equality Reality event on Monday, November 4, held at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills. The evening, hosted by Paul Reiser included special guests Jada Pinkett Smith and Alyson Hannigan, and also featured a live performance by Colbie Caillat, along an eclectic mix of music, film, and theater, all in support of the nonprofit. Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer who is now helming The Avengers films, has long been noted for creating strong—yet witty and well-rounded—female characters and working to advance gender equality in film. After the performances, guests including Gloria Steinem, Susan Chokachi, Elisa Steele, Jane Fonda, Ricki Lake, Yasmeen Hassan, Jay and Mavis Leno, Maria Shriver, and Equality Now co-founder and honorary president Jessica Neuwirth sat down to a dinner chaired by Nina Kotick, Paula Reiser, Sue Smalley PhD, and Erin Stein.
