Leonardo DiCaprio and Eva Chow gathered a charming group of entertainment luminaries for a Champagne-filled Los Angeles County Museum of Art Art+Film Gala on Saturday, November 2, honoring David Hockney and Martin Scorsese. Invitations to the event, presented by Gucci and now in its third year, have become one of the most sought-after status symbols in town and guests including Jane Fonda, James Franco, Kate Hudson, and Evan Rachel Wood arrived in designs by the Italian fashion house’s Creative Director Frida Giannini who also flew to L.A. for the festivities. After guests dined in a pavilion overlooking Michael Heizer’s Levitated Mass sculpture, magician Raymond Teller (of Penn & Teller) presented a tribute to British artist David Hockney who was also on hand, then DiCaprio honored his frequent collaborator, director Martin Scorsese. Hockney’s new multi-screen film, David Hockney: Seven Yorkshire Landscape Videos (2011) is now on display at the museum, and Scorsese, director of Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, and The Aviator, founded The Film Foundation dedicated to the preservation of motion picture film that has supported the restoration of four films by Agnés Varda that are entering LACMA’s permanent collection. Giannini introduced Sting, who sang for guests, and the celebration raised $4.1 million to support LACMA’s film initiatives, various art programs, and acquisitions.
