Piaget + Independent Spirit Awards 2014
One day before the Academy Awards, actors, directors, and producers gathered at the beach in Santa Monica for the Independent Spirit Awards co-hosted by Piaget on Saturday, March 1. Lupita Nyonh’o and her director, Steve McQueen, won winged statues engraved with Best Supporting Female and Best Director for their work on 12 Years A Slave. McQueen, also received a Spirit Award for Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, and Best Feature and Best Picture. Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto of Dallas Buyers Club took home the prizes for Best Lead and Supporting Male. Blue Jasmine’s Cate Blanchett accepted her award for Best Female Lead for the Woody Allen film. Jason Osder also took home the 19th Annual Stella Artois Truer Than Fiction Award for emerging directors for his Let The Fire Burn. McConaughey also received a nod for his performance in Mud, alongside the film’s director Jeff Nichols, casting director Francine Maisler, and the ensemble cast. Post-ceremony, the nominees and decorated winners alike departed to prepare to reconvene the following evening on Hollywood Boulevard for the Oscars.
