The Hollywood Bowl’s opening night concert kicked off the venerable amphitheater’s 92nd season as performers including Patti Austin, John Legend, and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were inducted into the Bowl’s Hall of Fame, on Saturday, June 22. The evening benefited the L.A. Philharmonic and its education programs, including the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) whose members also performed. Before Arsenio Hall introduced Austin, he turned to conductor Thomas Wilkins who had just led the Hollywood Bowl orchestra in the Sacrificial Dance from Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring and said, “ Sir, that Stravinsky made me want to riot, brother.”
