The Diane von Furstenberg: Journey of a Dress exhibition at LACMA West, formerly the Wilshire May Company building.

Diane von Furstenburg conjured up a bit of Studio 54 glamour in Los Angeles for the opening of her Journey of a Dress exhibition at the historic Wilshire May Company building on Friday, January 10, complete with an entourage of style setters. The exhibition commemorates the 40-year anniversary of the DvF wrap dress with hundreds of vintage and contemporary DvF pieces along with new limited edition designs and a trove of artworks featuring the fashion maven by Andy Warhol, Barbara Kruger, Chuck Close, Helmut Newton, and Annie Leibovitz. Guests including Diane’s son Alexander von Furstenburg and daughter Tatiana von Furstenburg, Tobey Maguire, Demi Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, Uma Thurman, Garcelle Beauvais, Jeff Bezos, Matt Bomer, Hannah Bronfman, Moby, and Erin Wasson attended the event. Andy Cohen and Coco Rocha worked the red carpet at the party celebrating all things DvF and many donned the dress that started the fashion empire.

Surrounded by seemingly endless samples of her handiwork, the designer celebrated the wrap dresses’ success with her peers including Christian Louboutin, Monique Lhuillier, The Row‘s Ashley Olsen, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. The Journey of a Dress, with contemporary art pieces by Anh Duong, Zhang Huan, and Li Songsong, as well as illustrations by Ruben Toledo and Konstantin Kakanias and stills of the wrap dress from the big screen including photos of Amy Adams in American Hustle, will be on display through April 1.
