In honor of its 75th anniversary, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art put on an unforgettable benefit jamboree on Wednesday, merging world-class art, food, music and more. Organized by Penny Coulter, Lydia P. Shorenstein and Kaitlyn Krieger, SFMOMA’s Birthday Bash kicked off with two concurrent parties at the museum: a Birthday Supper on the fifth-floor sculpture garden and pavilion, and a Surprise Bash on the seventh floor with fine fare and interactive art. The party continued well into the night, as both gatherings culminated with the Late-Night Bash, which included a performance by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Solange. The artful event was attended by such luminaries as SFMOMA’s director, Neal Benezra, Vanessa Getty, Denise Hale, and Randi and Bob Fisher (SFMOMA’s board president), along with artists including Barry McGee and Clare Rojas—the talented couple who painted a mural for the fete—and Doug Aitken. All of the SFMOMA’s Birthday Bash proceeds will benefit the institution’s revered exhibitions and educational programs.
