SFMOMA Contemporary Vision Award Dinner + Christian Marclay
San Francisco arts patrons gathered en masse to fete SFMOMA‘s Contemporary Vision Award, honoring innovative artist Christian Marclay as the 2016 recipient on Monday, October 17. It’s only fitting that Marclay is the first to be honored for the prestigious award at the newly expanded and transformed museum, seeing as his 2013 internationally heralded film, The Clock, helped count down SFMOMA’s final hours before the building underwent its expansion. Helmed by Event Chair Florence Buatois, the seated dinner also featured a conversation between the honoree and Rudolf Frieling, the museum’s curator of media arts, who delved into the native Californian’s work, which combines and remixes aspects of visual art, music and performance through provocative and visual landscapes. Over 300 attendees came out to recognize his talents, including art advisor Sabrina Buell, patron Komal Shaw and photographer Sonya Yu, while simultaneously supporting SFMOMA’s education and exhibition programs.
